Quick Sport Drink

child with sport drinkWhy waste your money on expensive sport drinks laden with chemicals?  Make your own quick and easy sport drink using natural ingredients with this classic recipe in under 5 minutes.

  • 1/2 cup (125 ml.) fresh lime
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) fresh lemon juice (or 1 cup if not using lime)
  • 1 liter filtered water
  • 4 tbsp coconut sugar, organic raw honey or organic maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp  any quality unprocessed salt such as Maldon, Himalayan Pink salt or Celtic salt.

The original recipe uses refined sugar and table salt but the replacements in this recipe are healthier choices.  The ratio of salt, sugar and citric acid to water is important.  Do not omit any ingredient.  Orange juice can be used in place of the lime juice.

Blend together.  Done.

Pure, undiluted coconut water is very similar to an electrolyte solution and can be used nearly alone.  Just add 1/4 tsp. salt and blend.  See my article on Coconut – Plasma to Wine.
